Our focus today is on British artist Daniel Angelus. The musician, singer, songwriter, and producer is a beautiful surprise. As you may already know, our redaction loves creativity and aims to highlight artists who aren’t scared to bring new musical worlds on the table.
Daniel Angelus is one of them. With his latest release ACT II, he unveils a cinematic musical universe between haunting melodies, emotional soundscapes, bewitching vocals, and a subtile and appreciable dose of experimentation.
It was only right to have a conversation with the talented Daniel Angelus: Rendez-vous Below.
Meanwhile, discover one of our ACT II favorite tracks, “Sertraline”:
Welcome to our redaction. Could you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us how you started your career?
My name is Daniel Angelus and I started writing music to cope and manage my depression and anxiety when I was 15 years old soon after my father passed away.
What inspires you to write and create music?
At first, I was writing to express myself in my bedroom. A lot of bad things were happening to me and I was just writing all of my feelings onto pieces of paper and then playing my keyboard in my bedroom. This has not changed in the many years since I started writing. I still write and perform to manage and cope in today’s world.
Can you describe your creative process?
My creative process involves writing the lyrics and then sitting for hours and playing music using synths, guitars and pianos and forming the skeleton for a track. I then record vocals and make additions to the track, adding a cinematic dreamscape that feels like a warm blanket for all of the hardship that exists within the song. I almost feel like an illusionist because I disguise the tracks raw emotion with pretty melodies and soundscapes. The process throughout is always emotional and when an album is finished me and the team always enjoy our final moments alone with the album before the world gets to listen to the songs.
We would love to have a few words about your latest release!
My latest release is called ‘ACT II’. The record features a cover of U2’s ‘With or Without You’ and 8 original dream-pop songs crafted over the last 7 years of my life that deal with a wide range of personal issues both me and people that I have crossed paths with throughout my life have endured and contended with. I am shit at talking about my music and myself so I hope you have a listen and feel it out for yourself.
Can we know more about your future plans?
We are beginning to put together the recording process for ‘ACT III’, and I also plan to perform ACT II to the public when it is safe and sensible to do so. I think staying alive is a high priority. Hopefully, my music is helping folks.
