Ben Jarrell and The Night Sights Turn Life’s Messier Moments Into Southern Rock

Ben Jarrell and The Night Sights know that not every good story needs to end happily. Sometimes it ends with two people making questionable decisions. Other times, it ends with everything falling apart.

The Nashville Southern rock trio explores both on “Wanna Get Out of Here” and “Rebecca,” two tracks that show just how much personality is on their self-titled debut album.

“Wanna Get Out of Here” takes the lighter route. Inspired by hot rods, bad decisions and what the band describes as a great guitar lick, the track follows two people living on the fringes of small-town society and simply having a good time. There’s humor, reckless abandon and a little Southern chaos thrown into the mix.

Then “Rebecca” completely changes the mood. Inspired by watching a fellow musician repeatedly make decisions that were destroying his life, the song captures the melancholy of true love falling apart. Where “Wanna Get Out of Here” embraces the bad decisions, “Rebecca” deals with what can happen when they finally catch up with you.

That ability to jump between stories is a big part of Ben Jarrell and The Night Sights. Frontman Ben Jarrell is joined by guitarist Ryan Hartman and drummer Cole Calise, bringing together years of songwriting, touring, production, and session experience.

Previous favorite “Trucker and the UFO” showed their more unusual side, while these two tracks bring listeners back down to earth with stories of love, recklessness, and heartbreak.

Different stories, different moods, but the same focus remains at the center: good old-fashioned songwriting with plenty of character.
