Discovering our hip-hop king of the week DAWG

In an era where Hip-Hop and music, in general creates clones, and tasteless recipe, we were totally thrilled to discover DAWG, aka Dope Ass White Guy, who serves authentic Hip-Hop to the table.

We discovered him with “Tampa Bay Baby” and “After Dark”, that made an amazing impression to our redaction. The productions are epic, hard-hitting, with a melodic touch added by sample per example (“Tampa Bay Baby”), and the lyrical content is powerful, highlighting DAWG‘s solid writing skills.

We honestly think that his music is a little music miracle that we all need. We had the chance to have a little chat with him to know more about his career. Press Play now and read it below:

Welcome DAWG! Tell us who you are and how you started to make music.

I go by DAWG which stands for Dope Ass White Guy and I got into music many years ago. I was connected to the music business through a guy that was big into the Blues industry in Mississippi. Initially, he saw the potential in me and managed my career in the beginning. Ultimately, we had different visions for the future of my music so we ended up parting ways.

What inspires you to write music?

Honestly the inspiration to write music for me usually starts with the instrumental. I myself do not make beats or instrumentals but I will listen for hours until I find the right track that ultimately hits me hard and chooses me and inspires me to create something from within.

What is your creative process?

I do not write anything when I am creating. I like to play the beat over and over and add to each track little by little while my imagination is stirring from start to finish.

Can you describe your latest release?

My latest release is titled “Tampa Bay Baby”. It has a fun melody and immediately strikes people as soon as the beat comes on before you even hear me. It is a track about Tampa Bay for the love I have for this city.

What do you plan for the future?

I am pushing hard to release as much music as I can in the near future. I plan on promoting “Tampa Bay Baby” for the next few months to really gain a larger following in my home city. Also, I have a son that is extremely musically talented and I would like to help manage his career at some point.
