Can you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us how you started to make music?

I am Toy Taha, an international singer-songwriter and arranger. I began my professional music career in 2012 with my first release in the form of a promotional project entitled, I Am Woman. Following an eight year hiatus, I reemerged with an EP entitled, EIGHT, which included two global hits “Loving On Me” and “Suite EFX” that charted in Germany, the Philippines, the UK and the US. My music includes showcasing my songwriting ability, storytelling and prowess with emotive vocals and lyrics immersed in themes of nostalgia, empowerment, sexuality and declarations of love.

What inspires you to write and create music?

I’m inspired to write music from life experiences of my own, as well as, family and friends’ experiences and sometimes the creations are simply from my imagination and creativity. My goal is always to maintain soul as my foundation and display my originality. In the past, I did not have complete understanding, but I now know these creations are not solely my own. I’m creating with a higher source and I’m ultimately a vessel.

Do you have a specific creative process?

My creative process varies. Sometimes I awaken from sleep and I have a mantra ruminating in my thoughts or I’m driving to work and I begin humming and other times, I am sifting through tracks and if a vibe or feel hits me, I have an outpouring of ideas and create the songs that way. Every single time, it’s different.

How could you describe your latest release?

My latest release is entitled, Heirlooms. It has a nice groove and jazzy undertones with horns that I love. It can be classified under the R&B umbrella, but I’m hearing more listeners describe it as neo-soul or new soul. I wrote the song about wanting to heal and break the cycle of generational traumas and ancestral woundings. Many times we operate out of dysfunction because it has been handed down to us and we may not have the tools to breakthrough, therefore we continue to pass down hurt and pain to the next generation. Heirlooms is an optimistic song. My hope is that we start having tough conversations in our families and not sweep issues under the rug and heal ourselves and in doing so, we heal the world. Also, my original song “Thrill Is Gone” is still going strong at 170K streams worldwide. Thank you all so much for your support!

What can we expect from you in the future?

My current plans for the future consists of continuing to grow as a songwriter and vocalist and to continue making music that is impactful and thought-provoking and eventually perform these records for a live audience.
