Tell us who you are and how you started to make music!

My name is Farrah Mechael.

I am an artist all the way to my core. Believe it or not, I started singing before I could speak.

I would hum and sing the operatic melodies from Walt Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty.” As I got a bit older I started singing at my church and absolutely loved it. I’ve always leaned toward the classical sound in music, and singing in church allowed me to sing in exactly that way. Even today when I make my music, I love incorporating classical sounds and aspects into my songs. I then started at the Detroit Opera House with my sister, and we both were in many operas and continued our musical training there. Shortly after, I began singing gospel at different services and churches in Detroit, and that really trained my voice in a completely new way. I started recording covers at studio nearby at around fourteen years old, and the engineer/studio owner there told me that if I wanted to take my career to the next level I would need to start making my own music. So I started doing exactly that. He connected me with my first producer, and then my sister was brought in as a songwriter. She was only nine years old then, but anyone listening to what she wrote would’ve sworn she was at least fifty years old. From that point onward, we traveled across the country making music with various people in a multitude of places. I ended going on my first tour with my debut EP and got to open for many A-list artists after the tour. I had the opportunity to perform at iHeart Radio’s Wango Tango and open up for Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, Meghan Trainor, and Marshmello. After that, I was named Detroit’s Up and Coming Artist of the Year. I  performed at Detroit Summer Jamz and opened up for Chris Brown and Torey Lanez in my hometown, and, let me tell you, that experience motivated me to chase my dreams even harder. It was after that the COVID-19 pandemic occurred, and I had to switch my focus from performing and touring to making more music since all of the live shows stopped. Last year, my single “Burning,” written by Tamara Mechael, Devrim Karaoglu, and myself, topped nationwide radio charts at #1 for all indie artists. For New Music Weekly Top 40 charts, I charted at #21 for all artists. Now I am back with a new single that will hopefully inspire you all- Holy War. 🙂

What inspires you to write music?

I would say that my life experiences are what inspire me the most when writing music. Writing and singing about things that I truly feel and believe can actually be heard in my voice, rather than just singing words that I don’t necessarily believe in. I think the honesty and vulnerability that comes with making music is one of the most beautiful things an artist or writer can use to connect with the audience. Music is supposed to make you feel something, after all.

What is your creative process?

I wouldn’t say that I have one specific way I go about my creative process. It honestly depends on the day for me. I am a very “go with the flow” type of person; so, sometimes I may choose to freestyle a song and see what comes out, while other times I may already have a melody and words that I plan on using for the song. As cliché as it sounds, it really is all about the “vibe” for me. I would also like to point out that my sister Tamara is usually involved in my creative process. I believe we have some sort of telepathy when making music, and anyone who has been in the studio with us would say the same thing.

Can you describe your latest release?

My latest release. Holy War. I honestly do not want to describe it too deeply because I would like you to listen to it and find what it means to you. I will say this, though, I believe there is constant battle between Good and Evil in all of our lives. I hope we all have the calmness in hearts to be Good.

What do you plan for the future?

I plan for people all over the world, few or many, to form a connection with my music. I pray that my music touches their souls and that it helps heal those who need healing. I also plan to keep releasing music for as long as I’m alive. I truly believe it is my purpose here on this planet.
