Hustle, Heart, and Hard Truths in DZOL’s “Go Out and Get It”

With hip-hop constantly shifting to follow trends, Go Out and Get It by DZOL brings it back to what the genre does best—telling real stories of struggle, perseverance, and triumph. Released in 2023 under the independent label We Rollin’ Records, the track has been steadily climbing the charts, peaking at #3 on the DJ Digital Chart and holding its own against heavyweights like Cardi B and Drake. Go Out and Get It is a raw and heartfelt track that tells the story of an artist who’s fought for every inch of his success.

DZOL, born Terry Rice, Sr., grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, a city that has shaped both his worldview and his music. His stage name has evolved over the years—from Pimp Dzol (an acronym for “Perfection In My Profession”) to simply DZOL—a reflection of his growth as an artist and a man. “I define myself as being a strong, no-nonsense family man,” he explains. That sense of purpose and authenticity is woven into every bar of Go Out and Get It, a track that feels like a personal mission statement.

Clocking in at 3 minutes and 26 seconds, Go Out and Get It wastes no time grabbing your attention. The production, handled by Grammy-nominated producer Sam Peezy at Tony’s Factory Studio in Atlanta, is sharp and relentless. The beat hits hard creating an atmosphere that’s equal parts motivational and menacing. It’s the kind of track that demands to be played loud—a sonic shot of adrenaline for anyone who needs a push to keep going.

DZOL holds nothing back, sharing the story of his rise from humble beginnings, his refusal to be defined by obstacles, and his determination to stay true to himself. There’s a defiance in his delivery that feels earned. He isn’t just rapping about ambition—he’s lived it. His deep baritone voice adds weight to every word, cutting through the beat with authority and conviction.

DZOL isn’t someone chasing viral fame or trying to fit into a mold. This is an artist who writes from experience. “I want to convey the message that no matter what adversity you have in life, you can overcome it,” he says. That message resonates throughout Go Out and Get It, it’s for anyone who’s ever felt like the odds were stacked against them.

DZOL was discovered by We Rollin’ Records founder Sharon Ford in 2004 while working at a Maryland manufacturing company. He spent years honing his craft before releasing his debut single Turnt Up in 2015 under his original stage name. Produced by Don Vito—known for working with artists like Future and Ciara—the track was featured on DJ Ron G’s mixtape alongside names like DMX and Iggy Azalea. Since then, DZOL has opened for acts like Migos on their DAB Tour in 2016 and Ja Rule and Ashanti later that year at Philadelphia’s Electric Factory.

But despite these milestones, DZOL has faced his share of setbacks. From losing hundreds of tracks in a computer crash to navigating the complexities of breaking into the industry as an independent artist, his path has been anything but smooth. Yet through it all, he’s remained focused on his goals—a theme that runs through much of his music.

Life itself keeps me motivated,” DZOL says when asked how he stays focused on his craft. That drive is evident in the way he approaches his career as a whole.

While Go Out and Get It stands strong as a standalone track, it also offers a glimpse into what we can expect from DZOL moving forward. His yet-to-be-released EP—also produced by Sam Peezy—promises more of the same raw honesty and high-energy production that have become his trademarks. And with collaborators like Christopher Starr of CSP Music Group (whose credits include Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran), DZOL is clearly positioning himself for even greater success.

It’s obvious he’s not just here to make noise. He’s here to leave a lasting impact. Watch as DZOL shows that hard work pays off, with a determination to rise and achieve greatness without ever settling.
