Award-winning chicago-based singer-songwriter, Terry Blade has just released his latest track “The Silent Treatment” (Shivers Remix) and it’s nothing short of a masterpiece.
His low-baritone voice is on show here as it smoothly drips of soft lo-fi beats. It blurs the line between urban pop and R&B with it’s softly soothing melodies and infectious rap-influenced rhythms.
Like much of his songs, this release defies genre, fusing together a furious flurry of different styles to create something fresh and distinctly his. Terry’s rich, honey-dripped vocals are simply intoxicating as they effortlessly flow over a laid back beat brimming with elements of jazz and soul.
As the song title suggests, the track is about when someone is given the silent treatment by their partner. Where they refuse to communicate to the other person or even not acknowledge their existence. The track delves deep into this issue as it talks on turning it into a medical treatment to try and cure existing problems in the relationship. It goes into how less communication between two people can actually make things worse as Terry emotionally croons over the emotional pain the silent treatment is causing him. How we can’t simply “ghost” a problem away, issues in a relationship need to be faced head-on.
The up and coming artist recently became a part of the indie label “Starburst Records”. The label wanted to celebrate and showcase all their artists as part of a 2020 compilation album. This is how the song came to be.
Fellow artist on the label “distant.face” wrote and performed the instrumental piece called “Shivers”. Terry was taken aback by how it managed to seamlessly blend together neo soul, jazz, r&b, hip hop, lo-fi, and funk. Being a versatile artist that often plays around with these genres, he jumped straight on the track and The Silent Treatment was born. A chill anthem designed to showcase what the labels all about.
He will be featured on the compilation album along with a number of other label heavyweights including DJ Dionysus, Vinni Hamilton and Eric Holland, just to name a few.
