A Love Letter Turned Anthem: The Story Behind Climb On’s “Breakthrough”

Climb On, a rising alternative rock band based out of Alexandria, Virginia, have been steadily carving out their place in the modern rock landscape with their fearless fusion of guitar-driven energy, synth textures, and unexpected saxophone flourishes.

Formed in 2020 by frontman Mitch Bernstein and later joined by multi-instrumentalist Brandon Landers, the group solidified into a four-piece powerhouse following the additions of guitarist Johnny Bounds and drummer Ricky Tanis in 2023 and 2024. The result is a band built not just on musicianship, but on versatility, each member ready to switch instruments, sounds, and styles to push their creative boundaries

Following the success of tracks like “The Bright Side,” “Devil’s Disease,” and their standout anthem “Darling, I Say,” Climb On returns with their most radiant release yet: “Breakthrough.” The new single channels everything fans have come to love about the band: big hooks, heartfelt emotion, and an irresistible sense of joy. Built around a captivating guitar line and a vocable, sing-along chorus, “Breakthrough” is topped off with an anthemic closing sax solo that showcases the band’s signature sonic twist

The song transformed into something deeply personal for guitarist Johnny Bounds, who wrote it as a love letter to his fiancée when he found that spoken words alone weren’t enough. In just an hour, the song took shape, evoking the feeling of running through a sun-soaked field with the person you love most.

With this release, Climb On leans fully into the glowing, feel-good side of their sound. “Breakthrough” is confident, melodic, and bursting with life, the sound of a band hitting their stride and channelling raw emotion into something undeniably uplifting.

As Climb On continue to rise, with a growing fanbase, national performances, and a debut album on the horizon, “Breakthrough” feels like exactly that: the start of their brightest chapter yet.
