Between Two Worlds: Finding Home in Kanu Chauhan’s Perfect Sign

Back in 2022, Indian artist Kanu Chauhan moved to the UK with little to no support network. Times were difficult, but she remained hopeful and eventually found a community of artists who supported and nourished her. The uplift of artistic belonging has contributed to her latest single: the diasporic, 2010s-chart-pop and Ravi Shankar indebted Perfect Sign.

Her second single of 2026, Perfect Sign blends Hindi and English lyrics with Bollywood instrumentation and Capital Cities bubble-pop. The track perfectly reflects the coordination of optimism and hope that comes from finally finding your place in a brand-new area, while bringing enough of yourself with you so it still feels like home. Its lyrics are somehow poetic in both languages, with one intimate line translating to ‘That pen in your words, is like music in my palm, if you are near, then I feel like writing balm, my heart becomes as warm as flowers.’

Speaking of the track, Chauhan says, “Through Perfect Sign, I wanted to capture both vulnerability and hope, the moments that define our lives and our journeys. This song is about that one person who makes everything feel right, even in life’s most uncertain moments.”

While the track ends too abruptly, this reflects a production issue rather than a lack of skill on the musician’s part. The bulk of the track is reflective, warm, diasporic, and the sound of somewhere finally marrying their origins with their new home. It is a warm, loving track brimming with nostalgia for both the early ’10s pop era and Chauhan’s home. With over 200,000 YouTube views, Kanu Chauhan is marking the beginning of her journey in a big way.
