Stephen Canfield’s return to songwriting following a twenty-year absence shaped by chronic illness could easily have become an exercise in autobiography. Musically, Healthcare occupies a compelling intersection where Americana, indie folk, ambient composition, and understated electronic textures coexist without friction. Acoustic instruments remain the emotional center, but Mellotron, modular synthesizers, Omnichord, and spacious production broaden the record’s emotional vocabulary.
