Welcome! Can you tell us who you are and how you started to make music?
We’re Richard and Mirco, two Italian artists. In our project Phoenix Can Die, Richard handles guitars, synthesizers, and vocals while Mirco takes on the drums and drum machines. But that’s not all – we’re also tattoo artists who love experimenting with different styles and mediums like painting and sculpture. We break stereotypes, and create unique music with energy and contrast. Our songs are inspired by Alternative Rock, electronic music, and clubbing scenes.
What are your main inspirations?
The inspiration in our music certainly comes from what we hear now and what we loved in the past, mixing everything with our essence. It would be really nice to be on a deserted island and create without influences, but we don’t think it’s possible for now. Never say never!
Do you have a specific creative process?
Our creative process begins with a vocal melody that often comes to mind during various moments of the day, even while thinking about other things. From there, we add the lyrics, guitars, synthesizers, and drums in a preliminary manner. We work together to refine the embryonic idea and Mirco develops the drum section. We just keep experimenting and bouncing ideas off each other until we land on a sound that we’re both really happy with. Of course, the process isn’t always straightforward and we have to do some refining along the way, but that’s all part of the fun!
How could you describe your latest release?
Iron Flakes is probably the track of the album where the influence of Alternative Rock writing is still very present. After a period of absence, Iron Flakes was the first song we started working on and it has undergone multiple transformations since then. We also worked together with friends from Rome in the process of arranging and a hybrid piece came out. Finally, we finalized the song at Emic Entertainment studios in Bologna, where we added some finishing touches to perfect the sound. It’s a summary of everything we are, we were and we will be.
What can we expect from you in the future?
We want to play as much as we can and bring our music everywhere.
