The song has this hauntingly beautiful vibe that really makes you feel the depth of Portnoy’s faith and emotion. The chorus, especially the Hebrew phrase “Imadi,” meaning “You are with me,” is incredibly touching and soothing. Portnoy’s voice, combined with the simple piano and some gospel influences at the end, creates a powerful and uplifting experience.
Portnoy, who originally hails from Manchester but now calls New York City home, brings a lot to the table. He’s not just a singer-songwriter but also a multi-instrumentalist and producer. His music has been influenced by a range of artists like George Harrison and Paul Simon, as well as his own rich musical background from his synagogue days.
Before “IMADI,” Portnoy released an album with The Portnoy Brothers and worked on a deeply personal project called Facing Flames feat. Guilda, inspired by a devastating forest fire. Despite those tough times, Portnoy’s music has always been a source of hope and resilience, with his vintage guitar, “Guilda,” symbolizing that spirit.
As we get a taste of Poetry in Prayer with “IMADI,” we’re also looking forward to his upcoming Aura EP, which promises a different musical flavor inspired by his daughter. Portnoy’s work is always evolving, and “IMADI” shows just how beautifully he blends spirituality and music.
If you’re looking for a song that’s both comforting and deeply meaningful, “IMADI” is definitely worth a listen. It’s a beautiful start to what promises to be a rich and inspiring album.
