An old friend of our editorial team, Chent is a full-blown creative universe. Born in Lillehammer, Norway, this progressive house visionary first turned heads with his comic book character before lighting up the European rave underground and the metaverse DJ scene.
His project “Power of Reboot” blends house, analog textures, and percussive energy, offering a futuristic yet soulful sound experience. After breaking free from Im Electronica to launch Saus Records, Chent continues to redefine electronic music on his own bold, interstellar terms.
Listen to his music and rendez-vous below to discover more about who is Chent!
Tell us who you are and how you started to make music!
Most people probably know me from DJing at some rave, the metaverse, even comic book or via the chat in streams of more established artists, however I still greet people who know me from other random places from time to time.
I got a guitar for my 6th birthday, so it sort of all went downhill from there, but I did not produce my first album until I was 12 years old, as a school project. Been messing around a lot with electronic music over the years, but the whole Chent thing started after I saw Look Mum No Computer make some simple synths on YouTube, and I started getting more serious in terms of analog electronic music production.
What inspires you to make music?
All sorts of things, sometime I hear something that really inspires me to play around in a new realm, other times I just mess around with something I just soldered together, and hit record. Usually I will just sit down and start the process, and it usually takes about a week from I write the first notes until I start mastering, but like with this track, I spent the time I have been in Norway to knitpick on mixing of Fanbase.
What is your creative process?
It is very technical at this point, however I do not have any such things as creative blocks. Of course some tracks are better than others, and I do my best to keep an open mind, and collect all the “seeds” I can and plant them, to make sure I do not miss out on any potential banger.
Some of my best tracks, did not really feel like anything good, however I do not have more than a handful of unfinished tracks from the last decade, as I go through the process with just about anything.
Can you describe your latest release?
Friendbase is my most streamed track of all times (as Chent), however I recorded that back in like 2020 while testing out a new synth module I had gotten in a trade.
Good thing I was recording that just after I had upgraded to Cubase Pro, so I was able to record it in 24-bit 192khz, as the recording was good enough to really shine with some more advanced mixing than I was capable of back then.
When I released the Progressive House version of the track, with more conservative drums, I worked a lot on the overall mix as well, so a good friend said that I should do the same with the old one, took me 3 years, but I did it justice.
What do you plan for the future?
Right now I just need to chill with my cat, however I think there will be a lot happening next season.
