– Congratulations on the release of “If I Couldn’t”! Can you share the story behind the song and what inspired you to write it?

The stress of everyday life, pursuing a career in such a competitive field. A song acknowledging I can’t be everything to everyone. It doesn’t mean I don’t care anymore or a burden to me. I just can’t be who I used to be to the people around me. That was the what inspired me to write it.

– You mentioned that “If I Couldn’t” took two years of re-writing and recording. What was that process like, and how did the song evolve over time?

The song version that was released was very different to the song it started as. Originally it started as a love song that was going to be released on my latest EP ‘Until Next Summer’ but I didn’t think it fit sonically to the more modern sounding R&B project. I stripped back the instrumental and gave a more honest performance that described how I was feeling at the time.

– You collaborated with your longtime partner Moneo on this track. Can you tell us more about your creative process together and what makes your partnership so successful?

Just the melodies and atmosphere Moneo creates always makes writing easy. My previous song ‘All I Know’ was written and recorded in an hour with the idea’s coming naturally. This time round although it took a while for the song to be completed, I always knew it was something I had to finish.

– Your music blends indie R&B and pop with deep, emotional lyrics. Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound?

Too many to name, Frank Ocean, Amy Winehouse, Bon Iver are to name a few. I’ve always liked telling stories and writing poems. I want the listener to feel something and I think those artists do that.

– For fans who are just discovering your music, how would you describe your musical style in a few words?

Indie Soul.I also have elements of Folk, Pop and Contemporary R&B in my music.

– What’s next for you after “If I Couldn’t”? Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations you’re excited about?

I have more music releasing on June 7th with a new song named ‘Home’ and finishing up my third EP that should be out before the end of the year!

– How do you see your music evolving in the future? Are there any new genres or styles you’re interested in exploring?

I will always experiment with new sounds and ideas as I have on my previous EP’s. I would like to create more acoustic music in the near future and potentially a live album!
