What was your recent experience on your trip to Nashville and meeting Tom Jackson?

Rob Massard – A:  I met so many musicians and truly wonderful people.  Many folks of faith and others that had faith in themselves.  Lot’s of humility to go around.  Tom Jackson, for those who do not know, is a live music coach. He has worked with several musicians and bands, such as Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendez, and Casting Crowns, just to name a few.  He is also the Author of the book “Tom Jackson’s Live Music Method,” in which he helps artists at every level create a live show that is engaging and memorable. I only met him briefly, and you could see the focus and excitement in his eyes, as it was very transparent that he was in his zone, right where he wanted to be.  He was surrounded by musicians who were ready to sponge up every word and tidbit of experience he was willing to share. We watched him transform a band’s performance right before our eyes as he choreographed their every movement. Re-writing the song on stage as it was performed to the point where the performance took on a whole new, memorable look.  It was fantastic to witness in person.

Which part of the creative process, from creating a song to performing live, is your favorite?

Rob Massard-A:  This is a tuffy.  I absolutely love the creative process. From a single line that grows into an embryo of a song.  The seeding, the watering, the experimentation, the continued molding…. until you just know it’s ready. The creative process is so very magical.  Having said that, there is something about unleashing your work into the universe to see what it has to say back to you once it gets out there.  It’s fun to sometimes perform a new song you wrote even before you have recorded it…. Just to see the reaction.  Sharing a live performance is its own kind of special. There is this very real, though invisible, energy exchange. It’s one of the biggest high’s or rushes you can ever experience.I’m not sure which is truly my favorite…..

What is your favorite part about live performance ?

Rob Massard-A:  Connecting with people The energy exchange between what you give and what you receive as a performer.  Everyone is giving something, it’s truly magical.
