Interview with upcoming pop-punk artist Nick Karcher

We got to chat with Chicago-based rising artist Nick Karcher around the release of his latest single “The Hard Bitter Truth”.

– How would you describe your sound?

Too punk to be pop and too pop to be punk.

– Your new single, “The Hard Bitter Truth”, is described as a heartbreak anthem with haunting lullaby elements. Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind the song?

Lyrically, the song is about accepting the end of a relationship no matter how much it hurts.

Sonically, I knew wanted it to be heavier than anything I had put out. The synths in the beginning always reminded me of a lullaby so I really wanted to play into that.

– “The Hard Bitter Truth” combines elements of pop-punk and emo. How do you navigate the creative process when working within these genres and what makes this track stand out?

I usually just let the sound come naturally when I’m creating. This is a more serious and dramatic song haha so I naturally went to a heavier more emotional sound. With a song like Mr. Obsessive that’s super bratty and playful, I lean into the more pop side of things.

I think the guitars and the melody is what makes The Hard Bitter Truth stand out.

– You collaborated with Reece Lenzo and Michael Bono, known for his work with artists like Avril Lavigne and YUNGBLUD. Can you tell us how the collaboration came to be?

Working with Michael has been so amazing, he’s such a genuine dude. I had originally taken this song to a different producer like last year and it wasn’t coming out right so I ditched it all together in favor of Mr. Obsessive. The other dude couldn’t get that right either so I hit up Michael on Instagram and that’s how that happened.

– How does your identity influence your music and the message you want to share with your audience?

I’d say my identity influences my music visually more than anything. A lot of the guys in pop punk get on stage in a t shirt and jeans and call it a day. I think my identity allows me to have more fun with the visual side of things.

– What do you hope listeners will take from your music?

I hope when listeners play my music they play a song that helps them get through whatever they’re going through. That they hear it and they’re like “this is what I need right now” cause that’s the best feeling.

– Lastly, what’s coming next for you?

More music and shows!!!!! 2024 is going to be a blast!
