Q&A with dreamy artist Slow Coast

– Hey Slow Coast! What’s the story behind this stage name?

Slow Coast comes from the overall vibe of the music, which has been described to me as laid back California/island vibes mixed with indie rock. It’s also the name of a small stretch of coast between Santa Cruz and San Francisco where I found myself writing songs as I was mesmerized by the waves and surfers. There’s no place like it.

– What made you pursue a music career?

Music has long been a world I could escape to where everything else going on in my life fades away. That slowly expanded into the world of songwriting where you can find yourself in this creative flow state where you’re not even thinking about what you’re doing or how much time has passed.

– If not music, what would you be doing now?

Well currently I work as an emergency room RN so probably that haha. However I’m working towards doing music full time.

– Can you tell us more about your album ‘Depths Like These’ and why this name?

Depths like these is actually a lyric from the lead single ‘Hypnotized’. It felt like it summed up the theme of the album. I spent a lot of time digging up things that were causing a lot of tension in my life. It’s not necessarily a fun process but it’s something I think everyone should do, and to put my findings to music made the process easier.

– Why choose ‘Hypnotized’ among the other tracks as the lead single?

To me, ‘Hypnotized’ seemed to connect with people in a way I hadn’t seen before. It was very special to speak with so many listeners that made it part of their day to day routine. I think sonically this song showcases what I’m aiming for and it has a strong theme that represents the album well.

– What’s coming next for you?

Next up is writing, writing, writing. I want to write double the songs I did last year. It’s tough to balance creative output with distribution and promotion, but I really want to bring my focus back to creating and producing.
