Q&A with The Avenues

We got to chat with British band The Avenues around their latest release, “Another Movie”.

– Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind your latest track, “Another Movie”? What made this particular theme resonate with you?
It’s about the feeling of being so overwhelmed with everything going in your life and being in your twenties and not really knowing how or what you’re supposed to be doing but then finding moments of calm in amongst it by taking solace in lazy days with your mates.

– Could you share some insights into the collaborative process of creating “Another Movie”? How did the band contribute their individual talents to the track?
It’s pretty much standard practice for us at the moment, Tom comes with a demo of the tune and we all come together,  tweak and add bits we think will improve the song, then go to the amazing producer Mickey Dale who usually kills it on the mix and works with us in adding and adjusting things etc. Over time, we’ve managed to create a great balance of everyone getting input on their own parts and the song as a whole, while staying true to what Tom wanted for the song.

– The Avenues have had a remarkable journey since 2018. What are some of the standout moments or milestones in your career that have led you to this point?
Being on the Main Stage for Humber Street is something that was really special for us, packing out one of Hull’s more prominent venues that is  Social for our headline Humber Street Live show has been a hallmark of our career so far. Also having away gigs around the country with the extended crew of the band. We had the opportunity to support Spector – a big influence of ours – in 2019 which was a hugely proud moment for us.

– How has your music evolved since your first two EPs?
I think we’ve become more well-rounded as musicians and as people since the release of our first EP, we have definitely found a sound that works for us and people seem to enjoy, but we will definitely continue to grow in our tastes and try new things in our process of writing tunes.

– Can you share a memorable moment or anecdote from the making of “Another Movie” or from your journey as a band that stands out to you?
After our second EP, we had to find ourselves a new drummer. Tom contacted Kurt, who was an old school friend, and he came along to practice one night. We’d been in the process of writing a new single, ‘Every Morning’, that wasn’t quite going as well as we’d thought. Kurt gave the demo a listen and asked to write his own part to it, and after the first run through of the song, everything finally clicked into place for the band and the three of us remember the looks on each other’s faces when we all realised we’d got the perfect man for the job.

– What can fans and listeners expect from The Avenues in the near future? Any upcoming projects, gigs, or goals you’d like to share?
Fans can expect another absolute rattler of a new tune on the 10th of November! We’ll be holding a single launch gig with some incredible local supports at The Polar Bear in Hull on Saturday 11th and we can’t wait to get back to gigging!
