Who said that creativity was dead? This is what we thought until we discovered ucancallmeTY, our most exciting personality of the day. He is a real artist, and his music blends sound from today and tomorrow, from hip-hop to post-RnB.
But the creative doesn’t stop here, he is also a comic drawer. His latest delivery is a surprising and appealing project titled “The Adventures of Space Ty”, the kind of visionary piece of art that everyone should have.
ucancallmeTY has the talent and the power to gather people around his stories, through music and art in general, which became the safe space ucancallmeTY needed to express himself.
Listen to his music, also available on all music platforms, and Rendez-vous below to discover our conversation with him:
Can you tell us who you are and how you started to make music and art?
UcancallmeTY is not only my way of introducing myself but it’s my artist name. I’m a Los Angeles Native Rapper, with R&B influences. My music journey began at the early age of 5. I could remember making up my own songs out of nowhere. Never needed a beat just my imagination. Music always pulled at me, but it wasn’t until I entered my college years that I decided to pursue a career in music. It was my roommate, who was a singer, that inspired me to take myself seriously as a music artist.
What inspires you to write and create?
Not being able to express myself to others is what makes me pick up a pen and pad, or even freestyle sometimes. I always say music is my first language! When I’m at a loss for words I write a song.
How would you describe your creative process?
My creative process involves different tactics for different environments. There is no one way for creativity to spark. But something I do is keep a pen and pad on me at all times. Throughout the day Clever lines and statements come to me and I’ll jot them down. Sometimes by the end of the day I’ll have a verse ready to record.
Can you tell us more about your latest release?
The Adventures of Space TY is a comic book I created, illustrated by Erika Bacon, that is accompanied by a soundtrack. The project can be experienced together by scanning the QR codes found through the comic book, taking you to the song related to that scene. My latest release is truly a labor of love. Aside from music another passion for me is space.. I love to observe the stars and planets in my spare time I even have my own telescope. This side of me has always been separate from me being an artist. So with this project, I wanted to embody who I am as a person and allow myself to create from a free non-restrictive place.
What do you plan for the future?
Well I love to tell stories, so I’m definitely going to continue the Adventures of Space TY saga, but also I look forward to releasing other non-space TY projects. After doing a project like The Adventures of Space TY, I’m not afraid to let my imagination go wild and I look forward to sharing it with the world.
